What wattage should a solar panel be?

Always match panel wattage to your home’s daily energy consumption. High wattage solar panels (above 350W) are typically more efficient and reduce the number of panels needed, saving space and installation costs. On the other hand, low watt solar panels are often used for small, off-grid applications where portability or limited space is crucial.

What is solar wattage?

Wattage refers to the amount of electrical power a solar panel can produce under standard test conditions (STC), which simulate a bright sunny day with optimal solar irradiance (1,000 W/m²), a cell temperature of 25°C, and clean panels. In simpler terms, a panel’s wattage rating tells you its maximum power output under ideal conditions.

How do solar panel wattages work?

Strung together and wired into your home’s electrical system, solar panel wattages are added together to calculate your total solar capacity. So if you install 20 solar panels, each rated at 325W, your total solar panel wattage would be 6,500W or 6.5 kW.

How many watts can a solar panel produce?

For example: A 100-watt panel can produce 100 watts per hour in direct sunlight. A 400-watt panel can generate 400 watts per hour under the same conditions. This doesn’t mean they’ll produce that amount all day, output varies with weather, shade, and panel orientation.
