Will Ghana become the first West African lithium producer?

Ghana is set to become the first West African lithium producer as two firms have signed an agreement to fast-track the project. This follows a conditional binding agreement that IronRidge Resources has entered with Piedmont Lithium to fully fund and accelerate the Ewoyaa Lithium Project to production.

What is the Ewoyaa Lithium Project?

The Ewoyaa Lithium Project is Ghana’s first lithium-producing mine and the flagship project of Atlantic Lithium Ltd. It is well located to excellent infrastructure and has proven to produce a spodumene concentrate product suitable for conversion to be used in EV batteries. The project is being advanced to production under an agreement with Piedmont Lithium.

Two million tons of lithium are expected to be mined annually, which means the deposit should be completely mined after eleven and a half years. Ghana is estimated to generate $4.8 billion within this period.
