How do solar tracking systems improve solar power efficiency?

The angle between a photovoltaic (PV) panel and the sun affects the efficiency of the panel. That is why many solar angles are used in PV power calculations, and solar tracking systems improve the efficiency of PV panels by following the sun through the sky. Figure 1. What is a solar tracking system?

A solar panel precisely perpendicular to the sun produces more power than one not aligned. The main application of solar tracking system is to position solar photovoltaic (PV) panels towards the Sun. Most commonly they are used with mirrors to redirect sunlight on the panels.

How a solar tracking system can align solar panels to the Sun?

The proposed tracking system can align solar panel to the sun depending on the acquisition of date of RTC, GPS position, heading of satellite compass, elevation of inclinometer and direction of SPA, then generated more energy than fixed-tiled system.

Does a five-position angle solar tracking system require less energy?

Study analyses STS using a five-position angle approach in both single-axis and dual-axis configurations, comparing them to a fixed solar panel setup (Nuttee et al., 2023). The results indicate that the five-position angle tracking method requires less energy for the tracking mechanism than a continuous solar tracking system.
