What are Vietnam's wind power policies?

Vietnam’s wind power policies are designed to promote the development of wind energy as part of the country’s broader renewable energy strategy. These policies aim to attract investment, facilitate project development, and ensure a stable and supportive regulatory environment for the growth of the wind power sector. Key elements include:

How much wind power will Vietnam have by 2030?

By 2030, the total onshore and nearshore wind power capacity will reach 26,066-38,029 MW (total technical potential in Vietnam is about 221,000 MW). Priorities shall be given to newly planned wind power sources in localities with good wind potential and difficult economic conditions.

What is the wind power potential in Vietnam?

Subsequently, the Wind Resource Atlas of Vietnam was published in 2011. The total technical potential for wind power development in Vietnam is believed to be at 24GW according the atlas. Developers and experts in the sector, however, perceive this to be overoptimistic and not always backed by existing wind measurements at 60m/80m height.

How many wind power plants are there in Vietnam?

Up to now more than 40 wind power projects are in development in Vietnam, with capacities ranging from 6 MW to 800 MW. A few are already under construction or in the pre-feasibility/conceptualization stage. Four grid-connected wind power plants with capacities from 30 MW to 100 MW are in operation, as listed below.
